Hey y’all! I’m Gabrielle and welcome to GabrielleHickmon.com. If you’re a writer, creative, entrepreneur and work in progress this site is for you. Meant to be my online portfolio, I’ll also share resources, creative projects, and pictures from my life in Spain here from time-to-time.
I used to keep all of my work on The Reign XY, the lifestyle site for millennial women-of-color I founded during undergrad. But after releasing my first book, sunny. into the world in April 2018 I realized I needed a website of my own. Thus, this site was born.
If you’re here, then you probably already know my name is Gabrielle. I was born and raised in Ypsilanti, MI and educated on the East Coast. After graduating from Cornell University and the University of Pennsylvania, a summer in South Africa, stint in D.C. and summer back at home in Michigan, I moved to the Galicia region of Spain which is where I currently live and work. Though I’ll always be a Midwestern girl at heart!
My parents will tell you I’ve always been a writer and I’d have to say I agree with them. I started The Reign XY because I didn’t see myself or my friends on the websites I frequented in 2013. I wrote and self-published sunny. because I don’t yet have a literary agent or book deal and needed an outlet to process my life and relationships thus far. I started EightyTwo NinetySix because of a conversation with my now co-host in 2017, but also because I always have conversations about creativity and entrepreneurship privately that I felt warranted being had publicly. And I moved abroad because well, I wanted to.
I’m all about freedom, doing the work (internally & externally), owning your voice, and being well-rounded. If I’ve done it right, this website will be a reflection of those values as well.
Real, raw, relatable roadmaps for the way forward – as I see it.
